World band festival
Since 1999, Lucerne has been home to Europe’s largest wind music festival with over 22,000 visitors and 1,500 artists. This festival is unique as it focuses on wind instruments although it does offer many genres of music including but not limited to jazz, swing, folk music, and salsa. Don’t miss this incredible music experience during the eight days it’s on in autumn!
Swisscity marathon Lucerne
On the last Sunday in October you can join fellow runners in the city marathon. If you love sports it’s one of the best things to do in Lucerne in autumn. Passing luxury hotels and seeing the Chapel Bridge along the route is a great way to experience the wonderful views Lucerne has to offer. The race distance is a half marathon in total that starts and finishes from the Swiss Museum of Transport.
Lozarner Maas or “Lucerne Autumn Fair” is a trade and fun fair that happens every year at Inseli Park, located close to Lucerne’s main train station. It sells different local products in the trade fair sections and offers entertaining rides in the fun fair part. Over the course of the 15 days this is on more than 350,000 visitors attend. Originally this event was for Lucerne’s patron saint, but the priests’ ordination has now changed it to being about having fun.
Lucerne festival of the piano
After the Easter Festival and Summer Festival earlier in the year the Culture and Congress Centre (KKL) hosts the third Lucerne Festival of the year in November. This event is slightly different than the first two as it focuses on keyboard music. Artists come into the city to play this instrument in recitals and concerts for about one week. During this time there are also some jazz music nights hosted at local bars and restaurants.
