Bürgenstock

The Resort

The Bürgenstock Hotel was first built in 1871 by Josef Durrer. Already back in the days it was an iconic location 500m above the lake of Lucerne.

Then in 1925 Friedrich Frey-Fürst bought the Bürgenstock hotels. He renovated the three hotels and build the golf course. It was a hot spot for celebrities and politicians.

After many organizational and structural changes in 2011 the State of Qatar's sovereign wealth fund become the new investor and owner of the Bürgenstock. They then decided to invest about CHF 485 mio and started to rebuild, renovate and expand the resort to about 30 buildings. In September 2017 the resort was re-opened.

Today the Resort consists of 3 hotels, 2 world famous SPAs, a health center, 9 restaurants, a golf course, 2 inside tennis courts and much more. It became the most prestigious resorts in Switzerland and maybe even in Europe.

The Spa

Probably the most famous Spa in Europe is located in the Alpine Resort on the Bürgenstock! Influencers from all over the globe come here to take their pictures and share them with the world. The 10'ooo m2 area has everything you could wish: Jacuzzis, Saunas, Turkish baths, relax zone, and the highlight: the infinity pool with view over the lake of Lucerne and entire central Switzerland.

Entries are however limited and need to be booked in advance. The 3h pass costs 95,- on week days and 150.- at weekends.

As alternative we suggest the Waldhotel Spa. It is located in the other 5***** hotel and includes a health and medical center. Entries are only allowed with a treatment booking. We suggest getting a massage which start at 80.- and pay the 35.- entry fee. The spa is far less crowded and has enough space to relax and forget the world.

How to get there

Boat and train, tain and bus or by car. There are three ways up the Bürgenstock.

When coming from Lucerne the most special way up is by boat from Lucerne. It leaves at least twice an hour just in front of the KKL. The modern boat will take you to Kehrsiten, a little village which is located just 500m under the Bürgenstock resort. From there a funiculaire will take you directly up in to the resort. The one-way ticket costs CHF 21.10.

You can however also take advantage of the famous Swiss public transport. The "Zentralbahn" will take you to Stansstad. There a bus will be waiting which takes you directly up to the resort.

Lastly you can also take your own car. Just take the motorway exit ins Stansstad. The windy roads will take you up the Bürgenstock. However, parking is very costly and will amount up to CHF 10/hour. If you spend more than CHF 150.- in the resort you can park for free for 3 hours.

Activities

The Bürgenstock is an ideal place to spend a day. There are many nice paths and trails along rocks and through green woods. A highlight surely is the Hammetschwand lift and the "felsenweg", which means no more than "cliff walk".
