Winter Activities

Surrounding Lucerne you'll find some of the best ski resorts in the Alps. Most of them can be visited as a day trip. The nearest resort is in Engelberg. It will take you about 40 minutes directly from the main train station in Lucerne (Platform 14).

Ice Rink Lucerne

It’s one of the most classic winter activities that is perfect for winter lovers in pairs or groups. The Eiszentrum Lucerne offers ice skating, ice hockey, and even curling in groups. Uniquely, this rink offers an experience full of fun with disco ice skating on Saturday evenings from 6-10pm. There is a schedule for drop-in hockey games where anyone can join in, and on the first Sunday afternoon of each month, there are organized kids’ games. Adult admission will cost you 10CHF but if you have a Sport Card Lucerne, be sure to bring it as you can get discounts on admission and rentals. Work up an appetite and enjoy a bite at the on-site restaurant. Grab a pair of skates and try out some ice skating in Lucerne!


Public Ice Skating:

Located near the Emmenbrücke bus stop, adventure/escape rooms are growing in popularity and popping up all over the world. You and a team collaborate to try and solve puzzles, riddles and find hidden clues in order to escape the room in 60 minutes. This location offers four unique escape rooms each with its own set of challenges and can be explained in both German and English languages. For a group of up to 7 people it will cost 30CHF for entry, but prices go up with fewer people so make sure to bring a few friends. Open from 9:45am until 10:45pm, gather your friends and team up to try and escape in time!

It’s one of the most popular winter activities among kids and adults alike, sledging is available all over Switzerland and is usually offered at ski resorts. During the winter months Switzerland accumulates lots of snowfall and the mountains around Lucerne are no different: Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi are both good options to take part in sledging! You can head up the cable car and rent sledges for approximately 15CHF while a day pass will cost 35CHF, or 25CHF with the Adult Half-Fare card. For added adventure, Rigi offers night sledging as well as snowshoe rentals and more! Take part in one of Switzerland’s most popular winter activities and get out on the slopes.

Cheese Fondue & Raclette Cruise

From about mid-Autumn until Spring of the following year, you can hop aboard the cheese fondue and raclette cruise. Enjoying unlimited servings of these traditional Swiss meals you can take in the grace and tranquility of Lake Lucerne under the moonlight. The cruise lasts about two and a half hours and provides an unforgettable experience in Lucerne. The price will cost about 35CHF for the cruise and about 37CHF for the unlimited food provided. Be sure to book in advance as this experience is one of Lucerne’s most popular!

Mount Pilatus

Located a short distance away from the city center, Mount Pilatus is a must-see with activities for every kind of adventurer. Restaurants and accommodation provide nice meals while the adventure-seekers can head out onto the slopes for sledging and snowshoeing with several slopes offered. Three snowshoeing trails are available for hiking, all under 2 hours. Hotel accommodation atop Pilatus is available although quite pricey: Hotel Pilatus-Kulm and Hotel Bellevue both provide luxurious accommodation under the winter stars. Visit one of the most famous mountains in central Switzerland and enjoy all it has to offer.
